posters 1

The poster for the first saw film is something that I was thinking of trying to copy for my film poster, having a white background with an dismembered hand covered with blood. For my film poster I was initally going to have a hand covered in blood holding a cricket bat. The poster for "Saw" mise en secne of blood is also associated with the horror/pshychological thriller genre

animatic review

An animatic is a combination of pictures edited together in the order that the shots are going to be in the film trailer. An animatic’s  function is too show the order of shots for an moving image production using photos, an animatic shows us what can be improved or what is missing before we make the film trailer

Our group used storyboards to create the main shots that we wanted in our actual trailer, after putting those first 15 shots into photographs we then  worked around those shots to fill out the narrative of the animatic.

We used the storyboard as a guideline to what shots we thought that were going to be important in the film trailer. We then took the shots for the animatic over 3 days when the whole group was free and having a different location for each photo shoot. We had 2 locations for the photo shot for the animatic, inside and outside of a house, and inside and outside of the school (canteen, locker corridor and classroom).

The actors during the animatic were mainly me and Dan from our group playing the main character Harry and the bully, other actors used for the animatic were mates based on who was available  at the time that we were doing our photo shoots .

During the editing process we constructed our animatic by building it around our storyboard. We decided that the editing was going to be a lot more fast paced  on the final shots, where a point of view shot  of some-one going down the stairs is used. We also used fades to black and fades to white to create a flash effect when a dead body was found.

On the choice of titles we tried to put emphasis on the word “normal” for example “just a normal boy” to try and remove suspicion  that the main character has any link to the murders (fooling the readers)

Due to illness to all the members of the group over the final production of the animatic, and on the day of the deadline I was on my own and due to the other members of my group being ill I had to try and think of dialogue/ voiceovers for the film trailer which I managed to complete but I didn’t have the time to put the audio over the animatic which made the animatic fairly hard to understand due to that animatic relies on the dialogue and the voiceover of the main character speaking  in a video diary to create the narrative of the trailer

We could improve the animatic by adding more shots of the main characters parents , in the one title it reads “just a normal family” however the animatic would suggest that the main character doesn’t have much of a family where there is only the one shot in the animatic where a family member is shown, that is in the shot of the main character Harry waving goodbye to his mum at the start of the animatic. We also need to add more clues onto how the people who are shown dead are murdered making the audience guess and ask questions. I also think that at the moment our animatic shows our  storyline to the film trailer too easy to guess as the constant highlighting of the main characters misery during school time when he’s being bullied physically and being ignored giving the viewer  no problem in guessing who had committed the murders.

The tittle for our animatic "two faced" was chosen to give the idea of the split personality of the character, and the two different lives he has, at home and when at school
